Preparing Young Adults with Down Syndrome for Life after High School

In this session, Walters and Dukes will cover how to prepare young adults with Down syndrome for life after high school whether that includes attending a post-secondary education program, entering the workforce, or attending a day program. They will discuss how to develop independent, social, and employment skills during middle and high school that will best prepare them for post-graduation. Attendees will learn how to collaborate with the education team, families, or community members to create and achieve post-graduation goals. Walters and Dukes will also dive into the necessary resources that support those with intellectual disabilities. They will give an overview of the different post-secondary education program models available for young adults with Down syndrome. Attendees will receive resources to equip parents, teachers, or other support personnel. After this session, you will be equipped to help prepare young adults with Down syndrome for life after graduation.
