Discover Three Daily Opportunities to Ensure Communication Success

Families with young children field many suggestions from others about what they should be doing for their child with Down syndrome. If these "shoulds" are not specific and personally tailored to the needs of children and families, feelings of guilt and resentment can derail all intentions. The trick is to work on many skills within a few activities already in your daily routines. These 3 activities demand active engagement and treat children as communication partners: eating snacks and meals, book sharing/reading, and turn-taking games and play. This presentation will demonstrate how to target oral motor and feeding experiences, requesting, following directions, answering questions. and compliance with other-directed tasks within the 3 daily activities above. While school and clinic therapies are essential, effective home practice is crucial. Join me to discover how your child's learning strengths can reveal opportunities for communication success.
