Giving Families Options: What's New in Clinical Trials to Treat Sleep-Disordered Breathing in Children

View Info

Sleep is essential for optimal neurodevelopment and maintenance of a healthy weight and is a requirement for overall health and well-being. Research has found that sleep problems are significantly greater in pediatric populations living with Down Syndrome (DS), than in the general population. Although children living with DS have several different sleep issues, sleep-disordered breathing, primarily obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), is the most reported. Untreated OSA is associated with growth failure, systemic and pulmonary hypertension, and cognitive and behavioral challenges. During this session, world-renowned sleep investigators will describe their clinical trials funded as part of the INvestigation of Co-occurring conditions across the Lifespan to Understand Down syndromE (INCLUDE) project. They will discuss the latest research and medical updates in sleep disorders and how investigators are working with families and those living with DS to overcome challenges to treatment.
