Journalism and Down syndrome: How to center stories on people with intellectual disabilities through plain language translation, storytelling and more. This session will focus on how people with Down syndrome and those supporting them can work with journalists to center stories on people with DS in the right ways. We will talk about how using storytelling both for people with DS and those around them (caregivers, teachers, medical professionals, etc) can amplify voices that are not often heard. And we'll look at other ways journalists can make their work accessible, including using correct descriptions and terms as well as plain language translation. (All Ages)
